Chances are that when you think of punk the former socialist Yugoslavia is not the first country that comes to mind. Yet, Yugoslavia had an incredible lineup of punk musicians that started playing in Belgrade, Zagreb, Sarajevo and Ljubljana at almost the same time as their counterparts in London and New York. Unlike the East European nations under Soviet control, Yugoslavia allowed outside influence to enter the country and tolerated some dissent and alternative movements such as punk.
