French Ligue 1 All Winners (1933-2025) | French Football Champions

Ligue 1, originally known as Division 1, was founded in 1932 and held its first official season in 1933, with Olympique Lillois crowned as the inaugural champions. In the post-war decades, French football saw the rise of iconic clubs like Stade de Reims in the 1950s and AS Saint-Étienne in the 1960s and ’70s. Reims led the French charge in early European competitions, while Saint-Étienne became a domestic powerhouse. A major milestone came in 1993 when Olympique de Marseille became the first and only French team to win the UEFA Champions League, though their domestic title that year was stripped due to a match-fixing scandal. These formative decades established the foundation for modern French football. The early 2000s were defined by Olympique Lyonnais’ historic run, as they won seven consecutive Ligue 1 titles from 2002 to 2008 — a record in French football. This era of dominance was followed by a brief period of competitive balance, with clubs like Bordeaux, Marseille, Lille, and Montpellier each taking turns as champions. In 2011, a seismic shift occurred when Qatar Sports Investments acquired Paris Saint-Germain. The club quickly became the league’s financial and competitive powerhouse, attracting global stars such as Zlatan Ibrahimović, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappé, transforming PSG into the face of French football domestically and in Europe. Since 2012, PSG has dominated Ligue 1, capturing 13 league titles by 2025. The 2024–25 season was especially historic, as PSG went unbeaten in the league under coach Luis Enrique, finishing with 74 points — 24 points ahead of second-placed Monaco. The team was led by standout performances from Ousmane Dembélé and Mason Greenwood, who each scored 21 goals. Despite losing Mbappé to Real Madrid, PSG completed a historic treble, winning Ligue 1, the Coupe de France, and the UEFA Champions League — a crowning achievement that confirmed their place among Europe’s elite clubs.
