Now more than ever, the world needs IIE. The people you support through IIE provide the very foundations from which more sustainable, peaceful, and equitable societies are built. They are scholars, artists, scientists, researchers, and future leaders. Targeted for her work spearheading women-led peace, security and disarmament efforts in India, Bina narrowly escaped threats on her life. Thanks to IIE’s Scholar Rescue Fund, she found safety at a university in the U.S., where she continues her research and the fight for armed violence reduction worldwide. Abeer’s hometown of Aleppo, Syria had been virtually destroyed by war. Abeer fled to Lebanon. But upon learning that her university was bombed and she had lost friends, she returned to Aleppo, despite the risks, to work with humanitarian aid groups. Today, with support from IIE’s Emergency Student Fund, she is in the U.S. studying conflict resolution and coexistence. For Cesar, a first-generation college student who grew up with a single mom in a low-income household, going abroad always seemed out of reach. He reached his goal when he won an IIE Generation Study Abroad Travel Grant. Cesar studied in Thailand and gained the intercultural skills and experience that are helping him thrive at his job today.
