Alexandre Guilmant (1837-1911): Pastorale in A-Dur aus „Pièces dans différents styles“, Heft 16, op. 72 Nr. 3 Guilmant wurde am 12. März 1837 als Sohn eines Organisten in Boulogne-sur-mer geboren und studierte bei Lemmens in Brüssel. 1871-1901 war er Titularorganist an der Kirche Sainte-Trinité in Paris, 1894-1911 Mitbegründer und Direktor der Schola Cantorum in Paris, 1896-1911 als Nachfolger Widors Orgelprofessor am Conservatoire Paris. Neben Franck und Widor gehört Guilmant zu den wichtigen Erneuerern der französischen Orgelmusik im 19. Jahrhundert, sein umfangreiches kompositorisches Schaffen erfreute sich in den Kirchen und Konzertsälen der Jahrhundertwende großer Beliebtheit. Guilmant schrieb seine „Pastorale in A-Dur“ ursprünglich als Duo für Klavier und Harmonium op. 26 im Jahre 1870. Seine eigene Bearbeitung für Orgel solo veröffentlichte er 1892 in der Sammlung „Pièces dans différents styles“ als op. 72 Nr. 3. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alexandre Guilmant (1837-1911): Pastorale in A-major from „Pièces dans différents styles“, Vol. 16, op. 72 No. 3 Guilmant was born on March 12, 1837 as the son of an organist in Boulogne-sur-mer and studied with Lemmens in Brussels. He was titular organist at the church of Sainte-Trinité in Paris from 1871 to 1901, co-founder and director of the Schola Cantorum in Paris from 1894 to 1911, successor of Widor as organ professor at the Conservatoire Paris from 1896 to 1911. Alongside Franck and Widor, Guilmant is one of the most important innovators of French organ music in the 19th century, and his extensive compositional work enjoyed great popularity in churches and concert halls at the turn of the century. Originally, Guilmant wrote his „Pastorale in A-major“ in 1870 as a duo for piano and harmonium op. 26. In 1892, this piece was published also in a version of his own transcription for organ solo, included in the collection „Pièces dans différents styles“ op. 72 no. 3.
