Since I started putting together my Homebrew Allstar node for my 18 wheeler truck. I have been chasing issues with NOISE! It sounded like I was in the yard working a weed eater all the time. These sounds were a combination of a few things. 1. The DC-DC Buck converter used to provide 7.8 VDC for the Baofeng radio could be heard churning away when the radio was in transmit mode. 2. The 3.3 VDC buck converter for the CM-108 sound FOB creates a high pitched (around 6khz) hum though the audio line to the radio. These noises could be filtered, but are ALWAYS there. So the answer is GROUNDING! I moved the whole system into a all Aluminum BUD box. And ran grounding lines to EVERYTHING! This all but eliminated the 7.8 VDC low frequency hum all together. And reduced the 3.3 VDC high frequency hum by around 90%. I wish I could get 100%, but It is SOOOOO far down with the voices, you have to crank the audio up on your radio to ear drum breaking levels to hear it. So, Enjoy!
