It's spawning season at Hanakapiai Beach! In this video the male toad is reaching his arms around the female's waist just behind her front legs. This embrace is called amplexus and is the mating position of frogs. While in the amplexus position, the male frog fertilizes the eggs as they are laid. Frogs tend to lay single eggs in masses, whereas toads usually lay eggs in long chains. This is a long, long chain of eggs and therefore, I assume we are watching toads. We came back a few hours later and the toads were nowhere to be seen, only the egg chain remained. It looks to be several hundred feet in length. And no, I wouldn't eat them.
