First Gravel race of 2025, came here to try to get my ticket for the worlds Gravel 25 as this was the course which suited me the most. 2 laps of 71km (142 in total) With 195 participants a top-40 would do so that was certainly possible with my current shape. Moved up pretty fast and immediately felt the legs were good. Stayed in front the whole time, until I crashed on a slower rider who fell just when I was going to pass him. Luckily for me I had nothing, my bike was ok overall, my front rotor was bent and rubbed the brake pad and my wahoo was broken, for the rest everything was rideable. Started my chase back to the front and I managed to do so, only 3/4 riders were in front and I was in the group behind. In lap 2, just as in lap 1 I stayed as much in the front as possible. When we came through the mully sand section again I started to loose contact with some of my AG riders, I didn’t exactly knew where I was in the race, but of all I heard before and looking at the orange numbers in the group(s) my guess was that I was still riding for a top-20 spot. At about 700m to go I escaped another crash and finished as first rider of my group. When collecting my medal I ended up 13th in my Age Group, much more than I expected (thought position 30 something was possible) so pretty happy with my performance, certainly when I turned my front wheel and the disc stopped the turning after only 2 times going around ( so did 100K with more friction) What if I hadn’t crashed ? Top 10 would have been possible, but let’s not go the “what if” way and just enjoy this unexpected result ! THX for watching KEYPOINTS : KM 1 : chase to the front 26:10 - picked up a branch that was stuck somewhere, luckily I could remove it by wobbling and don't needed to stop, you can hear it making noise all the time 43:00 - crash due to slower rider who fell to the left when I passed him 45:10 - you can hear my rotor rubbing the brake pads all the time 46:00 - Bottleneck and the advantage of using mountainbike pedals/shoes over road ones 52:30 - The chase to the front of my AG again 1:32:00 - Crash with about 700m to go which I luckily escaped
