Bhogi falls on the 13th or 14th January and signals the advent of the auspicious Uttarayan, Sun's northward movement, which happens on the next day which celebrated as Makar Shankaranthi or Pongal. People celebrate Bhogi by discarding old things and welcoming the newly harvested crops. They also remember the gift of nature and show their gratitude by offering prayers to Sun God and Lord Indra, the King of Devas.
