Founded in 1898, Goodyear is a tire company with an impressive history of innovation and progress. Although they are best known for their automotive tires and the iconic Goodyear blimp, they have recently returned to the bicycle tires market. In this review, we’ll be looking at the updated Goodyear Eagle F1 high-performance road cycling tires. Goodyear categorizes the Eagle F1 tires as “Ultra High-Performance all-round road race tire” as they combine light weight, low rolling resistance, and puncture resistance. The tires are constructed with Dynamic:GSR which is a proprietary blend of synthetic and natural rubber for optimal performance. There also is a R:Shield anti puncture belt to ensure the tires can hold up to all-day use. Goodyear also offers the tires as a tube specific variation and a tubeless variation (Tubeless Complete) with sizes that range from 700x23 to 700x32. Developed as a high-performance yet all around use tire, the Eagle F1s uses a blended tread design. There is a slick center section sandwiched between textured side walls. To handle wet weather, the tires also have angled treads to funnel water away. We were also lucky enough to try out the latest tan walled variation which looks even better in person than photos. Paying homage to classic gum walled tires, the tan sidewalls offer a nice contrast to the otherwise black tires and aside from one or two imperfections are even with a sharp dividing line. While it’s difficult to directly compare tire to tire, the Eagle F1s look similar to the Hutchinson Galactik but are more durable. ...
