The Hylas 70 is the product of world-renowned yacht designer, German Frers, and is an exceptional example of a high-quality contemporary semi-custom performance cruising yacht. As the flagship of the highly regarded series built by one of the world's most experienced yacht builders, Queen Long Marine, the yacht is strong and fast, with a customizable spacious 4 stateroom interior arrangement with exquisite varnished teak woodwork, and custom bamboo cabin sole with contrasting inlay. The Euro-style exterior deck design has a wide expanse of unrestricted decking that flows to meet the topside. Her classic hull has a graceful sheer line, a reverse counter stern with a garage, and an integral swim platform. The hull is constructed of fiberglass-twaron, a carbon aramid fiber with alternating solid FRP glass layup. The glass is hand-laid with no core and utilizes vinylester resins and an isophthalic gel coat for superior protection against osmosis and hull blistering. A modern fin bulb keel was chosen to maximize stability and performance with its lower center of gravity, although other keel options are available, this design is preferred by most. The solid lead keel is mated to the hull with 35 mm stainless steel keel bolts with transverse-mounted 8 mm backing plates. The rudder is 60% skegged for optimal performance under power while offering strength and protection for the rudder post and bearings. The rudder bottom plane is above the keel plane, further protecting the yacht in a grounding situation. The hull is protected by two epoxy barrier coats below the waterline. The bow is neatly trimmed with a solid stainless-steel striker plate for bow protection. The deck is constructed of GRP (fiberglass) with ¾” sandwich end-grain balsa core. The deck can be customized with either slow growth teak or contrasting non-skid. For added strength, the deck is solid fiberglass where deck fittings and high-stress areas are located. The deck is both chemically and mechanically bonded to the hull with 3M 5200 and stainless-steel bolts. Watertight collision bulkhead forward with independent overboard drainage. A very large step-down sail locker forward with a separate stainless access hatch and a sail locker are all forward of a watertight bulkhead. The enlarged stern garage provides ample storage and incorporates a dedicated auto bilge pump. The large aft deck lazarettes, port, and starboard have dual Bailey latches for a watertight seal. The transom has a full-beam watertight stern bulkhead across the aft port and starboard lazarettes and a transom garage with integral steps and swim platform.
