This answer needs a lot of scientific context. So read thoroughly as you watch the video and also feel free to put down questions in the comments: To understand Vascularised Fibular Grafting, you first have to know what is Fibular Graft? When someone suffers from Avascular Necrosis, one of the surgical remedies is Core Decompression accompanied by Free Fibular Graft. What does that mean? It means the patient's damaged bone is removed through Core Decompression and then their Fibular bone is taken out (Fibular is the smaller, and unimportant bone in one's leg, the other is called Tibia). The Fibular bone then replaces the removed bone, and acts as a physical support system for the Hip Joint. However, this technique has never soon a lot of promise, according to most medical academic literature. So what is Vascularised Fibular Grafting? It means that when we supplant the damaged bone with Fibular Grafting, we also take the blood supply of the original bone to ensure the support system is more healthy. This means the Fibular bone is coming as both a physical support and also bringing with it, its own blood supply. In medical academic literature, this technique is very sound. However, this is a highly complex medical procedure that is irreversible and can only be performed by experienced surgeons who are experienced with microvascular surgeries. So all in all, it is a very demanding surgery. This is also precisely why it is held in much higher regard than Free Tibular Grafting. We hope you found this video educational.
