Government consults industry on Conflicts of Interest legislation

Consultation with local entities for a Bill on Conflicts of Interest has been held with public and private sector representatives. In answer to GBC questions, the Government says the consultation could be widened if considered appropriate, but for now this isn’t envisaged. A consultation note on the draft bill highlights some of the requirements for the Act including a register of public interests for public bodies and the appointment of a Commissioner of Standards in Public Life. The Commissioner will have powers to investigate contraventions and take action. The Bill aims to implement recommendations one and two from the McGrail Inquiry report.
