The Ford Expedition, a well-known large sport utility vehicle, recently underwent safety evaluations by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and the results highlighted several areas of concern. Designed to transport people and tow boats and campers, the Expedition's safety performance, especially in crash tests, revealed significant shortcomings. In the small overlap front crash test, the Expedition received a marginal rating. The vehicle’s structure did not hold up well, with the steering column partially detaching from the instrument panel during the driver-side test, and the A-pillar separating from the rocker panel in both the driver and passenger-side tests. Excessive intrusion into the footwell area contributed to a high risk of injury to the driver’s right leg and a moderate risk to the left leg. Similar footwell intrusion was observed in the passenger-side test, posing significant risks. Despite earning good ratings in the original moderate overlap front evaluation, which considers the protection provided in the front seat, the Expedition did not perform well when restraint performance and injury risk for a second-row passenger were factored in. Measurements from the rear dummy showed a high risk of chest injuries due to excessive seat belt forces. Although the Expedition is equipped with second-row belt pretensioners, the injury metrics were no better than those seen in other large sport utility vehicles tested. In the pedestrian crash avoidance evaluation, the Expedition received a good rating for its standard front crash prevention systems, successfully avoiding collisions with the pedestrian dummy in most test scenarios. However, the vehicle’s headlights received a marginal rating, struggling to adequately illuminate the road on curves and producing excessive glare for oncoming drivers. The side curtain airbag for the rear passenger also failed to deploy during the test. The Expedition’s seat belt reminders received a good rating, while its LATCH system for child seat installation earned an acceptable rating. These evaluations emphasize the need for improvements in the Ford Expedition’s safety features to better protect both passengers and pedestrians, highlighting the importance of adhering to advanced safety standards for larger vehicles. #FordExpedition #CrashTest #VehicleSafety Get More Great Car Videos - Subscribe: https://goo.gl/BSIaFc
