I Minute I Question: Continuous or intermittent RRT in AKI? I Answer: Prof. Claudio Ronco, Director, St. Bortolo Hospital, Vicenza, Italy ---------------------------- So it is very important to know that the critically ill patient with AKI is severely unstable, for many years we debated continuous or intermittent or sled to treat this patient with AKI, today there is no more debate, this patient should be treated with continuous renal replacement therapy, not only because this type of treatment provides stable correction and prevention of further damage to kidney and general organ dysfunction. But also, because it prevents to become dependent on dialysis and in many studies Dr. Bellomo has shown recently an interesting set of data showing that continuous renal replacement therapy provides stable correction but also recovery of renal function as opposite to intermittent brain replacement therapy. So, no more intermittent therapy in the ICU patients.
