Happy Anzac Day! On this date in 1915, Australian and New Zealand soldiers set out to capture the peninsula of Gallipoli in an effort to turn the First World War in favor of the Allies. Over the course of WWI, 60,000 Australian and 16,000 New Zealand soldiers lost their lives. Anzac Day is remembered in honor of all Australians and New Zealanders who died in wars and other conflicts. For the occasion, I re-recorded the Australian folk ballade "Moreton Bay." This song likely dates back to the mid-1800s, and its verses are attributed to an Irish writer and convict named Francis MacNamara (a.k.a. Frank the Poet), who was sent to Australia in the 1830s. The melody is usually sung in 3/4, but I chose to do it in 4/4. My favorite recordings of this song include those by Marian Henderson, Martyn Wyndham-Read, and John Denver. My banjo is tuned to f#DF#AD -3
