Step number five: Where is the land located? The thing is, you really need to think about and know where you want to live. And maybe more important, know where you don’t want to live. Bonus step: People often talk about needs and wants. To find a property, a forever home homestead you need to be serious about your wants. Something else to think about that is super important. Will you fit in where you want to move to? Step number four: What was the land used for? Before you invest in a forever home, you should know what happened on this land before, in the past. Was it once farmland that has been neglected? Was there any type of commercial activity on the land? Something that might have left unwanted or unpleasant, or dangerous unsafe material in the soil. Step number three: Zoning, ordinances, regulations. Making sure you can do what you want to do on your land. If you want to build a tiny house and the local building rules have a fifteen hundred square foot minimum requirement, you might have to say no thanks. Step number two: How accessible is the property. And this goes both ways. Maybe you want it to be readily accessible and maybe you don’t.
