Recent Ganesh Chaturthi festival indicate that a pandal in Mangalagiri, Andhra Pradesh, was decorated with a staggering amount of currency notes. The total value of the currency used for the decoration was reported to be ₹2.30 crore, not ₹2.35 crore. The pandal was organized by the Mangalagiri Arya Vysya Sangham, led by businessman Sankar Balaji Gupta. This has been a long-standing tradition for the group, with the amount of money used for decoration increasing each year. The tradition began 18 years ago with just ₹5 lakh. The Ganesha idol and the entire pandal were adorned with garlands and ornaments made from currency notes of various denominations, including ₹10, ₹20, ₹50, ₹100, ₹200, and ₹500.
