Principal Cello with the Minnesota Orchestra since 1991, Anthony Ross has been a soloist many times with the ensemble, performing concertos by Dvorak, Victor Hebert, James MacMillan, Beethoven, Elgar, Saint-Saens, Brahms, Schumann, and Shostakovich as well as many chamber works. Away from Orchestra Hall, he is active as a chamber musician, festival performer and educator both nationally and internationally. Ross’ recordings include Bernstein’s Three Meditations, the George Lloyd Cello Concerto, and works of Rachmaninoff and Elliott Carter for Boston Records. In 1982, he was awarded the bronze medal at the prestigious Tchaikovsky Competition and has also received two McKnight Fellowships. The concert program will include a sonata for two cellos and piano by Handel, as well as a Spanish-flavored duet for clarinet and cello by Georgina Sanchez. Ross, Hara and Lovelace will conclude the concert with a performance of Brahms’ trio for cello, clarinet and piano. Joining Anthony Ross on the concert program will be Beth Rapier, Assistant Principal Cello with the Minnesota Orchestra since 1991; Burt Hara, Principal Clarinet of the Minnesota Orchestra for 25 years and currently Associate Principal Clarinet with the Los Angeles Philharmonic; and Timothy Lovelace, pianist and conductor, who serves as Associate Professor of Collaborative Piano and Coaching at the University of Minnesota School of Music. We are observing current COVID recommendations and requiring audience members to wear masks at our events. Concerts begin at 4:00 PM Central Time.
