What happened next was truly shocking and not nearly as well known as their escapes and thefts. When the smoke clears and the group gets what they want from the car, what happens to Bonnie and Clyde? What happened after Bonnie and Clyde died? Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were quite popular in their day. While many false stories about them (such as the story of Bonnie and Clyde giving gifts to the poor) were spread in the press, these two outlaws made headlines during the Great Depression. Depression. After being betrayed by a friend's father, the pair were eventually shot. Word quickly spread that the couple had been killed minutes after ordering takeout sandwiches at a small cafe in Bienville Parish, Louisiana. Residents rushed to the scene as the vehicle was towed away with Bonnie and Clyde's bodies still inside. More than just a look, people want some kind of keepsake. Someone tore off Bonnie's red hat. Someone else cut off part of Clyde's ear. The bodies were taken to a local funeral home located behind a furniture store near Arcadia, Louisiana. Ironically, Dillard Darby and his assistant Sophia Stone were kidnapped by Bonnie and Clyde earlier. Bonnie laughs when she learns what Darby does for a living and says who knows, one day Darby might do it! Darby did indeed embalm them, not without some difficulty. The body had so many bullet holes that the embalming liquid kept coming out. The families were notified and the Barrows sent an ambulance to deliver Clyde's body to the authorities, who returned the body to the family. Clyde's father (Henry Barrow) and Clyde's brother (Jack Barrow) have sent Clyde's remains to the Sparkman-Holtz-Brand Funeral Home in West Dallas. Bonnie's body was sent to McKamy-Campbell Funeral Home in South Dallas.
