A set of three of my favourite tunes played as a solo set in the style of Cape Breton piano. The first tune is a sad, but lovely Lament, which fiddler Niel Gow wrote for the death of his second wife. The second, Calum's Road, is a faster tune, a Strathspey written by Donald Shaw of band Capercaillie (which I have mispelt in the video, sorry.) It is a nice lilting, upbeat, happier tune, and was written about a road in Rassay, which a crofter, Calum Macleod single-handedly and laboriously built himself. The final tune is a reel written by Jerry Holland for fiddler Brenda Stubbert, called, naturally, "Brenda Stubbert's Reel." It is a minor key tune, (in A minor) and sounds quite bittersweet. Hope you enjoyed the video!
