A video essay, commentary video analysing the current state of the Game Theory, Film Theory, Food Theory and Style Theory channels after the retirement of MatPat. This youtuber documentary will outline the rise of Mattpat over the years, the evolution of his public perception and persona through GT Live, nostalgia and his enduring iconic, positive personality. Also covering the small drama and controversies throughout his carrer and then discussing and offering some constructive criticism for the new host replacing MatPat on the theorist channels and discussing how they can recover from the lowering viewcounts beginning to affect the channel. It's been shown time and time again that Channels who switched their hosts after years of building rapor with their audiences, seem to always end up falling into complete irrelevancy. Fred, equals 3, smosh… all channels that, at one time sat at the absolute peak of youtube, quickly fell apart after the leave of their iconic hosts. Matt, Steph and the game theory team are clearly aware of this. (clip) and they attempted to negate the usual kneejerk reactions of slighted fans by slowly introducing their new host over time, BEFORE MatPat announced his imminent retirement. This certainly succeeded in facilitating a smooth transition without any major drama, but taking a look at the analytics is a different story. If we look at the past 6 videos across the 4 theorist channels, excluding videos that have only been up for less than 1 week, and get an average viewcount then compare it to the average of 6 videos uploaded exactly 1 year ago, before matt announced his retirement. As a long time fan of game theory it’s a very concerning result. The numbers don't lie and they illustrate the beginning of the downfall of yet another iconic channel after, being acquired by an multi million dollar conglomerate and replacing it’s beloved host.
