On November 27, 2024, the Kosovar Centre for Security Studies (KCSS) hosted the third webinar in the SMIDGE Project series, “Extremist Narratives in Play: Gaming and Digital Spaces as Radicalization Arenas.” The session featured Prof. Ayhan Kaya (Political Scientist, European Institute), Dr. Rikke Alberg Peters (Associate Professor, Aarhus University, HistorieLab), Bledar Feta (IR Speacialist at ELIAMEP) and Ramadan Ilazi (Head of Research, KCSS), who discussed the intersection of gaming, digital spaces and radicalization. Discussion Points: How extremist groups use gaming platforms to target and recruit individuals. The role of grievances, alienation and socio-political factors in the radicalization process. The challenges posed by anonymity, algorithms and the fast-evolving nature of gaming technology. Strategies for countering online radicalization, including the importance of collaboration among policymakers, educators, gaming companies and communities.
