Images that captured readers’ imaginations over 50 years ago is the focus of a new exhibit. Mort Kunstler is widely known to art critics, museum curators and art collectors as our nation’s foremost historical artist. What many do not know is he started his career as an illustrator, creating a huge following for his highly regarded men’s adventure magazine art. The exhibit, “Mort Kunstler: “The Godfather” of Pulp Fiction Illustrators” opens Saturday, August 24 at the Heckscher Museum of Art in Huntington, New York. Kunstler’s iconic magazine covers defined the publishing genre of men’s adventure in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. This exhibit will bring another aspect of his wide-ranging talent into view. “Mort Kunstler: The Godfather of Pulp Fiction Illustrators” runs through November 17, 2019.
