The District of Columbia has been operating under a congressionally approved budget for the past six months. However, D.C. may need to cut $1 billion midway through its fiscal year. The temporary spending bill, known as a continuing resolution, is designed to prevent a government shutdown by requiring all federal agencies to operate under their 2024 budgets. While D.C. usually continues operating under its approved FY25 budget, this particular proposed budget does not exempt the District. Mayor Muriel Bowser addressed this issue during a press conference, highlighting the potentially disastrous consequences of slashing the city's budget.
