This new project for two is based on some suggestions deriving from some spiritual practices that both musicians have experimented: the shamanic techniques of ecstasy, living with the Amazonian Indian tribes, and Tibetan Buddhism, Pupillo; Zen meditation, practiced in Japan by Gebbia for about 12 years. On a sound level, The Fruitful Darkness is inspired by these experiences, a title derived from a book by Zen anthropologist and nun Joan Halifax. "Dry" sounds inspired by Zen, ritual rhythms with an almost techno flavour that come from the Zen taiko drums inside the monastery, together with the songs and whispers of the Indios or the strong chaotic descent into unknown sound states where to find the fruitful darkness or apparent darkness experienced by Massimo Pupillo in the Amazon.
