In the past, Charles Adelson was sued by Standard Insurance Co., which sought declaratory relief re: their denial of disability insurance benefits to Adelson; the case settled confidentially. In late 2020, Adelson sued Berkshire Life Insurance Co. in federal court, trying to get disability insurance benefits again. Adelson's mother, Donna Adelson, was arrested and charged with the same crimes a week after Charlie Adelson was convicted. She and her husband Harvey Adelson were at the Miami airport, trying to board a plane to Dubai, with their destination being Vietnam. Donna Adelson's trial will begin with jury selection on September 30, 2024. She is currently at the Leon County jail. Markel's ex-wife, Wendi Adelson, was named by the State as a co-conspirator in Markel's murder, but has not been charged with any crimes thus far.
