I used it during Kirk's point of view verse, but in the original series, Spock wanted to die after he killed Kirk, not seeing a way to move on or surpass the guilt. In the original movies, Kirk risked his life, welcoming death as he destroyed the Enterprise and stranded himself on a dying Genesis in hopes of seeing Spock.
