The upstairs Spiegelsaal (Hall of Mirrors) was damaged by Allied bombings in 1945, and was intentionally left unrenovated for decades, creating a tangible historical document—its cracked mirrors and stucco are a record of the city's endurance and trauma. Clärchens is still open and functioning today! Beyond its history, it continues its century-old function as a vital, socially diverse public space, hosting weekly tango, swing, and salsa dance nights.
