The Eighth Day is a 50m sport pitch on the far right side of the Project Wall in Rifle. The route is perhaps one of the best single-pitch routes I’ve ever climbed, in the US or abroad! It begins with a 15m 5.12d characterized by Rifle-esque blocky features, all facing the wrong way (of course). After a good shake, a short section of 5.11+ leads to the beautiful blue streak that is the standout feature of this line. The next 15m is continuous 5.12- on dead vertical terrain, composed of (almost) exclusively sidepulls and solid foot edges. The route culminates in a V6 boulder problem while traversing through the blue streak, characterized by huge reaches, tiny crimps, and microscopic feet. The final 15m is awkward runout 5.11, with a final sneaky 5.12a boulder problem guarding the top. A mindful traverse over loose rock on the rim finally leads to the chains. An epic route to climb or belay!
