Born on February 15, 1939, in Estherville, Iowa, Hansen was a shy and awkward child, often bullied by his peers. As an adult, he moved to Alaska, where he opened a bakery and was well-liked in his community. However, behind this façade, Hansen harbored a dark and violent nature. Hansen's modus operandi involved abducting women, often sex workers, whom he would fly into the Alaskan wilderness in his private plane. There, he would release them, only to hunt them down like animals. Over the years, Hansen confessed to murdering 17 women, although authorities believe there could be more victims. His crimes went undetected for years, partly due to his unassuming appearance and the transient nature of his victims. The breakthrough in Hansen's case came in 1983 when one of his victims managed to escape and led police to him. The subsequent investigation revealed a hidden cache of weapons and personal belongings of the victims. Hansen was arrested, tried, and convicted, receiving 461 years plus life in prison without the possibility of parole. He died in 2014, leaving behind a legacy of horror and a scarred Alaskan community. Checkout sites for stock footage used in this video.
