Chippy Survived the Winter! Hungry Chipmunk’s First Meal in 5 Months

Chippy the chipmunk is back! After disappearing for nearly five months during the brutal winter, we finally spotted him again on camera at the rock pile. And he was clearly hungry. This might be Chippy’s first meal after emerging from his winter torpor. Chipmunks don’t truly hibernate like some animals. Instead they enter periods of torpor, waking occasionally to snack on the food they stored during the fall. The last time we saw Chippy was back in October, busily stuffing his cheeks and preparing for winter. In this video you’ll also see a quick flashback to that October moment, when Chippy was packing away food for the long winter ahead.
