The General John A. Logan Museum has acquired a remarkable new document: an original 1879 letter written by Logan himself. In it, Logan explains to a constituent why protecting the voting rights of African Americans mattered—and why he was fighting efforts by Southern lawmakers to roll back those rights. It’s a rare window into a moment when the future of American democracy was undergoing change in the shadow of the Civil War. We take a close look at the letter, what it says, and why it still matters today with Director and Curator Laura Varner. Please visit and support the General John A. Logan Museum. General John A.
