Meet the Junkers J1 Limited Edition - my best looking wrist watch. One of my best pilots watches for sure - a truly stunner. I have been looking and admiring it for 6 months now. It was in very limited stock so I had to act. This is my mini-review and/or my thoughts about it. The Junkers J1 Special and Limited Edition commemorates the Junkers J1 - the first flying metal aircraft in aviation history, which was designed by Hugo Junkers. Early aircraft had only been built from lightweight components such as wood, fabric and wire ropes and, as such, safety was very limited. Thus the J1 revolutionised aircraft construction. The J1 is - in memory of its construction year 1915 - strictly limited to 1915 watches. This is a Flieger type A style watch but with a modern twist. This watch is built in Germany by POINTtec for Junkers. They also build Iron Annie, Zeppelin,... This watch is not a new model, indeed it is 4 or 5 years old and it is now discontinued for a while. Junkers are now making the J1 again but not as a limited edition, it has a slight different design and they also made it larger - it is 42mm now. It features a very sporty yet elegant look thanks to the midnight blue dial that changes color when the light hits it and the great finish of the case with satin brushed finished surfaces and the pilot bezel that is polished. The J1 features a Japanese Miyota 821A mechanical movement inside. The metal bracelet also makes a noble impression and the solid links are brushed with the center bits polished, just like the case style. The quality is very high, which can be seen in the double folding clasp and the great build quality and finish. The screwed glass back is great. The case back is brushed and very well finished too.
