This one was a long time coming. I finally got a reason to use this ancient vinyl cutting machine that I bought from a vendor at a WRAM R/C show in White Plains, NY more than a decade ago. maybe more than that--Windows 3.1 was still viable when I picked this thing up. Luckily it has a stand-alone mode, although if I really needed to, I could fire up one of my equally-ancient laptops and run the software on it...once I figured out which serial cable belongs to it. Nah, this way is faster. This work was prompted by the need to change the road number on a couple of MTH 'Auto-Train' auto carrier cars I had custom painted into a "What If...?" Phase V paint scheme (the real ones went to scrap wearing Phase IV)---and forgot to specify the correct numbers for the repainted cars. On top of that, the "Auto Train" logos couldn't be added due to running out of the correct-size/color lettering decals (O scale decals are a rapidly vanishing product, and custom runs often come with astronomical price tags). I finally got off my duff and ordered some vinyl samples off Amazon that contained a suitable shade of blue for the A-T logo, and used an existing roll of black vinyl to practice.with the road number/reporting marks. And while I was at it, I made this video, since there appears to be no other examples of this diminutive machine being demonstrated on YouTube (for all the good that does since Roland discontinued this thing many years ago--but maybe it'll help someone who buys one used.)
