More info about this amazing vintage trumpet: A monster trumpet from my personal collection, an Olds Super Recording from 1941-42! This horn was completely brought back from the dead by one of the finest restoration experts in the world, Robb Stewart. Check out more of his amazing work at robbstewart.com IMO the Olds Super Recording is one of the best trumpets ever made. It's lighter than the other Recording and Super models of Olds trumpets and has a twin tube leadpipe. Of course it also has the offset valve design. Interestingly, the Super Recording actually predates the Recording design (I have a ridiculously good Recording in my collection as well, stay tuned for a comparison video). One unique feature of the Super Recording is the bracing, like the double flanged bracings on 1st valve slide. And it has the cool trombone style water keys. This horn was in really rough shape when I bought it but I took a huge gamble and bought it without playtesting. It paid off after getting the horn restored! There was a lot of damage on the back bell bow and it needed a full valve rebuild. Robb said it was one of the most intense valve rebuilds he's ever done. The valves are unbelievable now! Literally as good as new or better, measured on our magnahelic gauge here at the shop. That's why you should always have your restoration projects done by a master craftsman like Robb (or Josh Landress, or Mark Metzler... send us an email if you need help finding a great restoration expert). Some restorers will make your horn look perfect by over buffing it or adding too much stress to the braces, but that can really change how the sound and playability of the horn. Get it done right! This trumpet was in really bad shape and now it's one of the best trumpets I've ever played. Completely raw audio and a first take as always, hope you enjoy the Olds Super Recording!
