A collaboration between Jessica Sabogal and Montana Cans. Produced by: About Her Films Music: YellowStraps x Le Motel - "Pollen" "After long deliberation, I wanted to paint something in solidarity with the #migrationisbeautiful movement, taking a stance on the freedom for human beings to roam around the earth unbounded by borders and unconstitutional laws put in place to keep us in one place. For this piece, I chose to paint a photograph entitled 'The children of Castro' by photographer Robert Leon. This piece is for Cuba. I wanted to spray this picture to break the US's notions of what Cuba is. Their kids are no different than our kids. Should they not be given the freedom to dance on whatever path life takes them? From the day they are born they face incarceration by imaginary borders and sanctions put on them by the United States. Generations of families have become separated, commodities have gone scarce, and innovative ideas have become outdated and ancient. I see the struggle between undocumented Americans and Cubans as very similar. One group has come to the US and is being forced to leave, and the other is being forced to stay. Either way, both groups should be able to migrate as they please. So this is for you, Cuba. Thanks for teaching me about the true meaning of resourcefulness and passion, all while never being afraid to dance. Big thanks to Montana Cans and Melinda James at About Her Films for making this all possible." -Jessica Sabogal
