Here are my thoughts on the 1998 Honda Civic with the 1.6L inline 4 engine and 5 speed manual transmission: The 1998 Honda Civic is the perfect first car for enthusiasts. They're cheap, good on gas, easy to work on, and easy to find in stick shift. But thats about it. Honda Civics were meant to be first cars, then sold or traded for something faster and better. Civics are almost painfully slow, so I understand the want to make them faster. But putting makeup on a pig doesn't make it a princess. It's still a pig. I really liked the Civic's simplicity. Minimal electronics and a small under-powered engine makes the whole car as complicated as a number two pencil. This idea is carried on to the transmission, a very simple and easy to manage clutch and shifter combo, really welcomes new drivers to the world of stick-shift driving. My only real dislike with the Civic is the community. For me, I can't see this car as anything more than a starter car. When I see older guys driving "Pimped Out" civics, it looks like a 40 year old wearing a supreme snap back: just grow up. Unless the car is completely built, end to end, gapping Corvettes and Hellcats alike, I don't see a point. Would I buy a 1998 Honda Civic? For my kid some day. Cars are my passion, and I want that to be passed down to my children one day. This is a perfect car for them to get started on.
