A cool autumn day at the north marshalling yard: The station, located in the districts of Moosach and Feldmoching-Hasenbergl, was put into operation in 1991 and is one of the most modern marshalling yards in Germany. It replaced the previously used marshalling yards München Ost Rbf and München-Laim Rbf. The station consists of five track groups with a total of 40 directional tracks. Trains can exit directly from the southern directional group, while trains from the other four groups must first be brought forward to the exit group. Beam track brakes were installed as uphill and downhill brakes, while rubber track brakes are installed in the directional tracks. Directly behind these is the clearing zone, from which the cars are pushed with small trolleys. Several bridges over the station provide a good view of the action: Lots of shunting, but also through and out traffic can be found! A class 290 677 - 4 is working tirelessly and pushes freight wagon after freight wagon down the unwinding hill. For one freight car train, the diesel locomotive needs between eight and nine minutes (shortened to about half in this video).
