Diving into Resin Printing (And Design Teacher Stuff)

00:07 Introduction 01:31 Other Projects 05:16 Unboxing the Printer 11:14 Bricklink Studio Aside 13:11 Wednesday 18:30 A Makeshift Filter Box 21:00 First Print 26:52 Japan and Back 30:17 Conclusions and Stray Thoughts Today's video follows my first experiences with resin printing! I've been eager to get into this for a while, and between student product designs and an upcoming Blood Bowl tournament it's a great time to dive in. Resin printing is accomplished using a photopolymer that hardens or 'cures' when exposed to UV light. A high definition screen illuminates certain pixels, cures resin, and then repeats the process once the cured model has been lifted and returned back down above the screen. This produces highly detailed, dimensionally accurate models with unique material characteristics. This kind of 3D printing requires considerably more post-processing than FDM prints, including multiple isopropyl alcohol baths and final exterior UV curing. The extra tasks are a big reason I held off on getting started with resin printing, as well as the smell of resin in the printing vat. Resin printing is potentially far, far more dangerous than FDM printing, and requires use of PPE, and responsible disposal of materials. First drafts of this video included much, much more discussion about challenges finding time to work on projects I enjoy or want to complete. I do still include several projects that were produced during the recording of this video. Since this video I've printed new things every few days, and gone through 2kg of resin. I've improved safety and post-processing, but still have much to learn. This video took entirely too long to produce, but I hope it's at least a little interesting. I learned a valuable lesson about working without a script. The wonderful Asian Joy Co. blog: https://www.asianjoyco.com/ "Your First Resin Printer": https://www.asianjoyco.com/resources-...
