▲ Kino is a short film by Marta Szewczyk and Andrea Jarales, exploring the protagonist’s growing obsession with a neighborhood cinema. Her everyday life, filled with routines and quiet monotony, begins to blur as she experiences vivid visions and fleeting hallucinations while visiting the cinema — glimpses of herself in places she has never been, moments of wonder that break through the dullness of her daily existence. ▲ Subtle camera movements, reflections, and repeated imagery create an intimate, tense, and quietly disorienting atmosphere. Scenes of rotting vegetables, wilting flowers, and the growing chaos in her apartment mirror the deterioration of the protagonist’s mental state, intertwining the physical decay around her with her psychological fragmentation. ▲ The original score by Sofia blends cinematic tension with abstract electronic textures and a fragile, hypnotic melody that echoes the protagonist’s inner drift. Layered environmental sounds — clattering dishes, street noise, fragmented voices, and haunting laughter — blur the line between reality and perception, turning everyday noise into something uncanny. Rather than guiding emotion directly, the soundtrack creates a subtle, suspended unease that deepens the film’s liminal atmosphere. ▲ Shot on Super8 using analog techniques, the film brings a tactile, grainy quality that reflects the fractured inner landscape of the protagonist.
