Glass bottles are made from a mixture of silica (silicon dioxide), soda ash (sodium carbonate), and limestone (calcium carbonate). The process of making glass bottles includes several steps: Raw materials preparation: The raw materials are mixed together in a furnace to form a homogeneous mixture, known as the batch. Melting: The batch is then heated to a high temperature, typically around 1700 degrees Celsius, to form a liquid glass. Forming: The molten glass is then shaped into the desired bottle form using various techniques, such as blowing, pressing, or blowing-and-pressing. In blowing process, a hollow tube of glass, called a parison, is formed by blowing air into a gob of molten glass using a blowpipe. The parison is then transferred to a mold, where it is shaped into the final bottle form using compressed air or a plunger. Annealing: After forming, the bottles are slowly cooled, a process called annealing, to relieve internal stresses and prevent cracking. Inspection and packaging: After annealing, the bottles are inspected for quality and packaged for shipment to retailers or manufacturers. Note: different types of glass bottles may have different manufacturing process. Some glass bottles may go through additional steps such as coating, printing, or labeling.
