Human Resource Management is about the formal systems designed to manage people in an organization. It is made up of eight functional areas of human resource work. Let’s explore talent management. Talent management are the integrated processes to attract, motivate, and retain productive, engaged employees. Centered on learning, the activities of talent management include recruiting, interviewing, selecting and onboarding. Recruiting Recruiting is the process of generating a pool of qualified candidates for a job. The recruitment process includes analyzing the requirements and attracting candidates. Managers should focus on structuring job related, organizationally relevant communication to the right audience when recruiting. Interviewing Talent based interviews, often called patterned interviews, seek to uncover each candidate’s talents and how their unique strengths might contribute to the organization. We find the best possible candidate at the intersection of talent and values. There are three core types of interview questions – experience, self-evaluation, and behavior-based – that unpack the talents of candidates in your selection process. 1. Experience questions ask candidates to tell us what they think about their past experiences and education related to the job. 2. Self-evaluation questions ask candidates to hypothesize on how they feel about a particular topic. 3. Behavior-based questions ask candidates to describe past behavior in terms of job performance. Best practice suggests that you incorporate a variety of interview question types with an emphasis on behavior-based. The patterned interview should also include an opening to set up the interview process, as well as an opportunity for the candidate to ask questions of the panel. Selecting The culmination of the hiring process is identifying the top candidate in the interview process. Selection is the systematic process of finding the right person for the right job and the right time. Because your organizational values guide your daily actions, measuring candidates on their talents in those areas will help you identify the best possible candidate. Onboarding The first days and weeks at a new job are some of the most memorable. Employees come to a new organization with many unanswered questions. How will I fit in? How do we do things? What resources are there to help me succeed? Onboarding helps new employees quickly answer these questions. Great onboarding is all about integrating employees into their role and to the organization, socializing with their team, resonating with the purpose, empowering them to achieve. Overall, affirming their decision to join you. Create a great onboarding plan using these three C’s: 1. Clarity: introduce policy, expectations, and how the employee’s work adds value. 2. Culture: Help employees navigate values, norms and unique language. 3. Connection: foster interpersonal and organizational relationships. Enjoy learning more about talent management.
