In our earlier videos, we explored how cancer begins, spreads, and the role of the immune system. Today, we take it further and understand how cancer immunotherapy treatment boosts your immune system to fight cancer cells. Cancer develops when abnormal cells with genetic mutations escape immune surveillance. Normally, our immune system (natural killer cells, T-cells) destroys such cells. But tumors evolve ways to hide or suppress immunity. Immunotherapy equips your immune system with the tools to recognize and attack cancer. How cancer cells evade immunity: Hiding their identity (receptor loss) Suppressing immune response Activating checkpoints on T-cells (blocked by checkpoint inhibitors) Creating a hostile tumor environment Overpowering by rapid growth and large numbers Types of Cancer Immunotherapy: Monoclonal Antibodies: Artificial antibodies targeting cancer cells. Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors: Block checkpoint receptors to reactivate T-cells. CAR T-Cell Therapy: Genetically modified T-cells designed to kill cancer.
