How to Install the Passage Shower Base

The Passage Shower Base by American Standard provides sturdy construction and elegant design for an easy upgrade to your shower. For steps on how to install the shower base, follow these instructions: Step 1: Ensure the floor & stud walls are square and plumb on a level floor. Step 2: Provide a 5x5” opening in the floor for the drain. Refer to the product rough-in for drain location. You must purchase a standard round shower strainer-type drain. Step 3: Remove the strainer from the drain and cut the waste pipe height so the drain body is snug in the shower base. Step 4: Apply silicone sealant between the drain body and the base. Step 5: Dry fit the base to the floor. Check the floor for level and adjust if necessary. Step 6: Mark studs at the tile flange for reference. Step 7: Remove the base and apply a non-shrinking bedding material such as mortar. Apply and spread enough bedding material to support the bottom. Do NOT use the base flange to support the shower base. Step 8: Lower the base into position with the drain assembly into the waste pipe. Rock the base so the top of the tile flange aligns with the reference lines on studs. Step 9: Make sure the base flange is contacting rough floor along the entire length. Ensure the bases is level in two directions. Step 10: Allow the bedding material to completely harden before applying any weight. Step 11: Replace the drain strainer and tape over the shower drain to protect finish and block drain from construction debris.
