Ottorino Respighi is rightfully renowned for his orchestral imagination, but his piano writing was just as striking, inventive, and gorgeous. This set is one of Respighi's first published works, each piece paying homage to particular styles and musical eras. Ironically, these miniatures were never intended to be grouped together. Respighi composed them individually between 1903-1905; it was apparently a decision by his publisher to release them as a collection. It's remarkable, then, how wonderfully each movement compliments each other; so much musical variety in such a short amount of time. From humorous dances, passionate emotion, and serene beauty, Respighi's Six Pieces for Piano is an underappreciated work of ingenuity and brilliance. Learning this set was very difficult, to say the least...I must've popped, like, ten joints learning Studio. Regardless, this set has always been a personal favorite of mine; I'm so happy I can finally share it with all of you. Cheers!
