Hayachine Kagura is a general term given for the Kagura groups in Hayachine in Oohasama region, Hanamaki City in Iwate Prefecture. Hayachine Kagura is especially popular and unique from its distinct tunes and artistic dances. There are two groups in Hayachine Kagura, Také and Ootsugunai. Every Summer at Hayachine Shrine, a festival is held for two days, they perform all dances to dedicate to god. The festival goes on until midnight on the first day and then on the second day, it starts from the morning. "Gongen" is the avatar of god. This Gongen-mai is performed at the last of all the performances. At first, a human (the dancer without a mask) dedicates the dance to call the spirit. When the dancer puts the mask on, he is no longer a human, he is performing as a god and he goes back to being a human in the end.
