How to make a Plant propagation box - « prop box »

Your wishes are my command! It’s been a while since I talked about how to make a prop box and a lot of new comments have cornered me into making another! Shockingly I have tried to give as much detail this time without boring your tits off! So for todays lesson what you’ll need: Storage boxes - these can be stolen from your kids room by throwing away all the toys inside or by buying new ones off Amazon or at ikea! Personally I don’t make holes in them as I don’t see these as being air tight! I start with a layer of drainage incase there is too much condensation - this can be stones, perlite, leca, gravel etc - personally I use perlite as it’s cheap, light and effective! I then go in with a second layer of sphagnum moss - now you can stop here and have great success however I do like to give my props some soil mix too! The moss filters the next soil layer when mixed with water so that you don’t get any dirt at the bottom. I then add in a layer of Chucky airy soil mix - compost, bark, perlite and worm casting (If you have more soil amendments handy then go for it some like to add some activated charcoal too but as I don’t have any right now this will work fine too!) Finally I add a fluffy layer of sphagnum moss on the top. The fluffier the better as we want our cuttings to nestle nicely into these green clouds. And that’s it ! It’s as simple as that! I go ahead and add in my cuttings, give the box a spray down, close it and forget about it for a month! Prop boxes are a great inexpensive way to propagate, super successfully and save on space as they stack! Hope this helped!
