Therefore, more ancient Roman architecture appeared in Nîmes than in other French cities. The main attraction of the city can rightfully be called the Amphitheater (I century BC), where gladiator fights were held. It is impossible not to visit another ancient building - the Maison Carré (Square House). This is a perfectly preserved temple of the 1st century BC, which was not destroyed due to the fact that it was actively used - as a church, a museum, a tomb and even a stable. Not far from the city there is also a monument of Antiquity - the highest surviving ancient Roman aqueduct, the Pont du Gard.
