In this, one of my most ambitious videos, I cover in deep details how exactly an external footswitch toggles a Marshall JTM30 guitar amplifier between its clean and dirty (boost) modes. I know the video is long but there is a surprising amount of technical ground to cover in order to fully understand how things work. Part of the mystery I solve is how the footswitch overrides the pushswitch on the front panel of the amp. It's not nearly as simple as I originally assumed. And so, to learn it for myself, I leave no stone unturned as I explore the audio path and use animation on top of the amp's schematics to illustrate exactly what's happening with various internal components including the relays and transistors. I also take a very up close and personal look at the construction of the amp's tip-sleeve jack and what happens when you plug the footswitch into it. Please comment below if you think you have a correction. Most importantly. Enjoy! I hope you learn as much as I did while making the video.
