Pantisocracy Season 5 E2 'Breaking Secrets & Silence'. In a compelling episode host Panti Bliss talks of breaking secrets and silence and how shame has choked both people and a country. She meets author Caelainn Hogan 'Republic of Shame' who talks of the legacy of the mother and baby homes in Ireland, and Magdalene laundries, and how she tried to give voice to those who had lived in those institutions and sough to break the shame, secrets and silence which cover what happened in Ireland. With her are two people directly impacted by those institutions and that culture. Singer Jess Kavanagh ( Jess Kav) and film maker Paul Duane. In the show Jess performs a spin chilling version of Hozier's song 'Nina Cried Power'. Jess's mother was born mixed race, Nigerian Irish, in a mother and baby home, while Paul Duane was himself born in Sean Ross Abbey, the mother and baby home, featured in the film Philomena, and was adopted from there by an Irish family.
